How WatchMyStay works

A narrow promise, kept carefully: we watch the hotel, not your booking.

What we watch

  • Business status from a licensed place-data service – a strong signal for temporary or permanent closure.
  • The hotel’s official website – supporting evidence, only after repeated failure or a clear notice.
  • Official notices from the hotel, its owner or an authoritative public source.
  • Property identity – changes of name, location or website that suggest a rebrand, move or new owner.
  • Serious incidents such as fire or flooding, from curated public reporting, only when the property and location match exactly.

Availability and review trends are not used in this pilot. When they are, they will only ever be weak, supporting signals.

How often

The closer your stay, the more often we check. Everyone watching the same hotel shares the same checks.

Time before check-inChecked
More than 90 daysEvery 30 days
31 to 90 daysEvery 14 days
8 to 30 daysEvery 7 days
2 to 7 daysDaily
Under 2 days, and during your stayEvery few hours, then daily

If something looks off, we recheck within hours rather than waiting for the next scheduled check.

What WatchMyStay is not

  • Not a guarantee that a hotel is safe, open, or will honour your reservation.
  • Not a booking manager, claims service or insurance adviser. We never cancel anything for you.
  • Not able to see your reservation – so we can’t tell you whether your booking is affected, only what we observe about the property.

How we make money

Monitoring is free. If you choose to compare alternative hotels after an alert, that link may be a commercial referral link – it is always labelled, and it can never influence what we report or how strongly.

Something wrong?

Hotels and travellers can tell us about an error at any time: report a correction.
